This Way to Monterey Bay

Project Details

Built for a family of six, and overlooking the Monterey Bay, this house is centered around a large living room, family room and kitchen with a curved wall of windows that sweeps in the view of the ocean. Folding exterior doors open to a terrace that has both an outdoor fireplace, barbeque, and spiral stair to a terrace with a hot tub below. A two-sided fireplace floats in the middle of the space serving as a partial divider between the living room and dining area. Cantilevered beams support steel posts, which in turn support an expansive tent-like roof structure that hovers over the main living spaces. The materials are natural woods with a variety of stain finishes.

I love reading. Give me a blanket and maybe something to drink and I could sit in that little reading alcove all day!

I love how the shape of the cantilevered beams carries into the indoor portion of the chimney. Excellent attention to detail. The whole house flows like that. This might be my favorite beach house.
