Green Design Girl

Here’s another chandelier made from recycled plastic, glass and metal objects that I discovered at an internet cafe in Köln, Germany in 2003. I must admit that I prefer the monochromatic clear plastic chandelier for its simplicity. This coloured one seems a bit busy, but still fully admirable for its eco.creds. For a closer look at the many objects used, which seem to consist mostly of quirky cups and saucers, click here.

Blush Pillow by Imelda Gozali fo...

Blush Pillow by Imelda Gozali for Inhabit @ Design Public. I’ve been impressed by Inhabit’s modern range of eco.friendly accessories for a while, having featured their sleek bamboo-made Wall Flats on Green Design Girl before. These contemporary yet cozy pillows caught my eye, though it should be noted that not all of Inhabit’s pillows are on the green side [I’m always sniffing out the green creds carefully and I encourage you to do the same – if the labels don’t say much, always ask!].

The Inhabit pillows I’m posting here have a wonderful retrosuede finish to their covers and have a feather/down insert. They are made from 100% recycled polyester and while that may not beat organic cotton, hemp or bamboo fabric, I’m giving them eco.props for fully recycling and making good use of that poly. To up their eco.points, Inhabit has these pillows hand printed in the U.S. using eco.friendly inks “with no chemical waste or disposal generated” and these soft beauties are fully recyclable at the end of their life-cycle. Modern, fun and eco.chic — that definitely qualifies as GDG-approved around here.

:edit: It was great to hear from Singapore-based Imelda Gozali after featuring her Blush, Dew and Flown pillows here on GDG. Apart from being a talented designer, she’s got a fantastic design blog called Imedagoze which I highly recommend.

Flown Pillow by Imelda Gozali for Inhabit @ Design Public. Gozali has a great eye for pairing fun colours. The fact that they’ve used such different yet complementary prints on either side makes it easy for you to change the look of your room in the blink of an eye.

River Rock Pillow by Jennifer + Mike Tuttle for Inhabit @ Design Public. I love the bold and graphic nature of these prints, which still manage to evoke a warm and earthy feeling of nature.
